How to Be Spiritually Aligned!

One of my clients recently shared something very wise with me. She said, “I feel like if I become spiritually aligned, then things in my life will also become aligned. I’ll attract people and situations that will match where I am.” Although I recognize life is not always that simple, I appreciate the idea that we can focus on doing things that help us feel connected and in sync with ourselves, which can enable us to navigate life situations with grace and awareness. Given that, I was fully on board with exploring this idea with my client. I started with this question, “What does that look like for you?” From there, we explored ways she could practically apply the idea in her life. The list for her included:

  • Meditating daily for a clear mind.

  • Caring for her body through healthy choices.

  • Saying no to toxic relationships.

  • Processing her feelings and emotions in safe, supportive ways.

  • Staying focused on her positive life goals, such as her school and career aspirations.

It may sound simple, but I find that it’s true: when you align with who you are meant to be spiritually, life begins to flow with a kind of magic and synchronicity.

What does Spiritual Alignment feel like?

I’ve certainly experienced being aligned and misaligned. My life can either feel like a synchronistic dance, as if the Divine is orchestrating events and I’m flowing with grace, or it can feel like a frustrating grind when I’m out of alignment. Low energy, sadness, confusion, and ongoing frustration can be signs of spiritual misalignment. When I notice them, it’s my signal to check in with myself spiritually.

I did this recently when I was feeling out of sorts. Like many people, I sometimes resist meditation when I’m feeling down, but I’ve learned it’s one of my best paths to clarity and helping myself feel better. I got up early one morning and sat in my backyard, where I had a view of the full moon as it was setting. In this space, I became still and opened myself to Spirit, whether you call it God, Source, the Universe, or some other name for the mystery beyond human understanding, is fine:)

When I showed up for Spirit, Spirit showed up for me. As I opened myself, a golden light filled me, grounding me and helping me remember who I am, spiritually. From this place of calm and ease, I received answers to questions I had and reassurance for the situations I had been worried about. This is what it feels like to connect to your inner knowing. It is a wisdom that comes from a different place than logic or reasoning and comes when you feel calm, grounded, trusting, and at ease.

Not every meditation is going to be so “enlightening”. Sometimes, a meditation can simply be taking a few breaths, letting go, and simply noticing what is. Either way, it is a practice and skill that can be learned and becomes easier with time and repetition, potentially leading to meaningful connection through a spiritual experience, like the one I had.

Being spiritually aligned doesn’t mean life is perfect without problems or challenges. We are human and live in this world, after all. What it does mean is that we can learn how to handle life’s hard things from a grounded, centered, and trusting place within ourselves.

People often ask, “What is spiritual counseling? Can we only talk about spiritual things?”

The truth is, everything can be spiritual. In spiritual counseling, we view the experiences we are having as powerful healing and growth opportunities. We ask insightful and inquisitive questions such as:

  • Why am I going through this situation?

  • What can I learn from this experience?

  • What’s on the other side of this challenge?

  • How can I grow through this hardship?

  • What does my inner knowing tell me about this situation?

When you connect to a higher meaning, you can navigate life with more trust, resilience, and hope, even before you fully know what the lesson is. We create the space for this by using holistic techniques and skills, like mindfulness, meditation, somatic experiencing, and more, to help you align spiritually and with your inner knowing as part of the counseling process.

The following are signs of spiritual misalignment. If you:

  • Feel something is “missing” in your life.

  • Experience frequent confusion, frustration, sadness, or lack of energy.

  • Find yourself in constant distraction.

  • Have a mind that won’t stop.

  • Are not taking care of yourself well.

There is no judgment here. It is genuinely challenging to stay spiritually aligned and connected to your intuition in this life, which demands so much of us and pulls us away from our inner selves. If you find yourself off track and ready to get back into alignment, you don’t have to figure it out alone. Through spiritual counseling, you can reconnect with your authentic self, gain clarity, and move forward with purpose. Let’s Get Aligned Together! This world needs us to Be In Tune!
